Blanka: child
Im back! and ready to post more work weekly. Here's my new year process: a facial study of Blanka as a child.
Wild hair and innocent expressions with glassy eyes to symbolize emotion and pain.

Gorilla Ritual Scars
Ritual scars symbolic of the Gorilla - to draw fear into his opponents eyes. Gorillas are extremely territorial and place their dominance in their eyes, posture, and mannerisms. Blanka resembles the same with the face of a gorilla scarred on his face. The markings around his eyes are the same of a gorilla as it draws attention directly to them allowing Blanka to recognize if he is being treatened or dominated. The marks under his nose reflect the inner creases of a gorillas nose and the vertical lines on the bottom of his face symbolize the coat of fur covering the rest of the gorillas face.

thinking
I want Blanka to be human not beast but his appearance to be abnormal and not with fancy accessories or expensive or unique clothing. I want something deeper. Something that will always remain a part of him. His physical features will have meaning far beyond shackles and brown shorts. I'm giving him ritual scars. Scars that symbolize purpose, history, and his rights of passage. These scars will stand out on his body creating a very dominant presence like the animals in the wild and the people from his tribe. The scars will cover most if not all of his body and symbolize his power, uniqueness, and spirituality within the jungle and his previous tribe....(still thinking, more ideas coming soon)

B.T.B. "BLANKA: The Beginning"
This is the first project of my new portfolio of concept art. I started with something that I enjoy as a gamer to fuel my creativity. I am going back to the beginning of Blanka's known existence on the Brazilian land. (Original Street Fighter 2 character) I can't explain anything else but my works and progress will show my thoughts and direction. I will provide sketches, storyboards, color comps, character ideations, props, environments, and fully rendered works. I appreciate and want constructive criticism. It's the only thing that's gonna help me make an effective portfolio that these companies will want to see. I hope you enjoy and check up on my progress. Everything I do will be posted and updated frequently. Enjoy B.T.B. "BLANKA: The Beginning" Glenn Lattiere

Box of Kisses (1-25-09)
Here is the sketch for the second assignment. The idea is that a father lost his daughter at a very young age and one holiday before she died she gave him the biggest gift ever. It was an empty box to the visible eye, but was full of kisses. After her death the father opened the box every night and took a kiss to remember her everlasting love. (very sad story)
She's going to be a ghost in the final concept. currently she's blocked in heavily to indicate her posture and position in the composition. I need help figuring out a good color theme for the father, the light coming out of the box, the girl, and the background? Input is highly encouraged :)

The Rose Within (1-22-09)
So, for my first assignment in Senior Studio B I read a short story about a guy who stopped watering his rose because he noticed the thorns before it blossomed and lost faith in having a beautiful rose. The moral of the store is to always have faith in yourself and accept your flaws. Only then will you overcome them and blossom like a rose.
